FireDome Picks Yuba County for First North American R&D Site
FireDome, an international wildfire defense technology company, has selected the Yuba County Airport as the home of its first North American prototype and research and development site.
Founded in Israel by engineers inspired by the Iron Dome defense system, FireDome is developing an autonomous wildfire defense system built to detect and suppress fires before they spread. The system combines artificial intelligence, advanced detection technology, and a proprietary launcher that sends capsules of water or fire retardant directly at identified hotspots. It’s designed to provide a rapid first response in the critical early moments of a fire, with potential uses from protecting homes and communities to safeguarding crops and agricultural operations. After developing and testing the technology in Israel, FireDome began looking for a North American site. Yuba County staff worked across departments to understand the company’s needs, navigate permitting and regulatory requirements, and identify a location at the airport.
“Working with Yuba County has been an exceptional experience for FireDome! From the beginning, the team has been incredibly helpful, responsive, and solutions-oriented. They took the time to understand what we are building at FireDome and approached our project with a rare combination of technical understanding, forward-thinking, and genuine collaboration. Rather than simply helping us navigate the process, they worked with us to find solutions and make things happen. Their openness to new technology and willingness to support an innovative company like FireDome has made a real difference as we establish our U.S. operations in Yuba County. We couldn’t have asked for a better partner as we build and test the next generation of wildfire resilience technology!”
